Oxytocin is secreted by paraventricular nucleus and supraoptic nucleus (SON)in the hypothalamic, released into the blood by the neurohypophysis. originally, oxytocin is used to stimulate uterine contraction and reduce the uterine bleeding and promote the milk secretion in clinic, In the late years, it play an important role in the regulation of energy metabolism.the main mechanism of oxytocin is to project satiety signal onto the satiety center, then generate a nerve impulse inhibition of eating in the central nervous system. It can be concurrent with promoting eat neurons (NPY) in the hypothalamus and inhibiting eat hormone (such as POMC, leptin, GLP-1) to strengthen the anoretic effect. In the peripheral region, oxytocin can regulate energy metabolism such as energy expenditure, lipolysis, improving insulin sensitivity and glucose regulation. |
