Objective:To examine the association of serum concentrations of thyroid hormone and body fat distribution in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with normal thyroid function. Methods:A retrospective analys of a cohort comprised of 117 type 2 diabetes with normal thyroid function who had been measured anthropometric index, blood lipid and body fat parameters by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).Results:Pearson correlation analysis showed that free triiodothyronine (FT3)was positively correlation with Android Gynoid Ratio (r=0.321, P<0.05) after adjustment for age and gender in euthyroid subjects. In addition, thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) was negatively correlated with Android Gynoid Ratio (r=-0.185, P< 0.05). In multivariate analysis, Android Gynoid Ratio and FT3 independently correlated (β=0.321,P<0.01); and Android Gynoid Ratio independent negative correlation with TSH (r=-0.445, P<0.01)can be seen in body mass index(BMI)<24 kg/m2.Conclusion:It suggests that there is a certain association between thyroid hormone and body fat distribution in T2DM with normal thyroid function.
