| Stroke and epilepsy are two of the most common neurological disorders. The relationship between stroke and epilepsy is complicated. It has been well established that stroke is one of the most important causes of epilepsy, especially the new-onset epilepsy among the elderly people. However, the stroke after epilepsy hasn’t been paid enough attention. In recent years, it has been demonstrated that the epilepsy patients have an increased risk of stroke and increased mortality from stroke when comparing with the general population. Additionally, it was proposed that the post-epilepsy stroke might be associated with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), the epileptic seizures and the lifestyle of the epileptic patients. Thus, the present article comprehensively reviewed the epidemiology and possible reasons for post-epilepsy stroke, and discussed the interventions for post-epilepsy stroke. |
