Objective:To observe the effect of Modified Chaihu Jia Longgu Muli Decoction on insomnia of dysfunction of Qi activity type. Methods:65 insomnia cases(by CCMD-3) of Yin and Yang Movement Disorder type were randomly divided into Modified Chaihu Jia Longgu Muli Decoction(MCJLMD) group and Shumian Capsule(SC) group. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. The data from Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI), the SPIEGEL sleep scale and symptomatic score chart of Chinese medicine of MCJLMD group and PSQI of SC group were processed with SPSS20.0 to see the difference before and after MCJLMD administration as well as that between two groups. Results:It was shown in the data of 54 insomnia cases from MCJLMD group after 4 week treatment that 1) Total sleep time before was 4.11±1.25 hours and 5.94±0.74 hours after the MCJLMD administration. The abnormal distributed data of sleep time was tested by nonparametric Wilcoxon signed-rank and showed significant difference(P<0.05) before and after treatment. 2) The abnormal distributed data of SPIEGEL sleep scale were 25.83±9.63 before and post the treatment 10.13±6.68, which showed a significant difference(P<0.05) by non-parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test. 3) The normal distributed data of PSQI were 15.93±2.95 before and 8.52±3.4 after the treatment by t-test, which showed significant difference(P <0.05). 4) The abnormal distributed data of Chinese medicinal symptomatic chart were 12.13 ± 3.89 before and 4.67 ± 2.81 after the treatment, which showed a significant difference(P <0.05) after using non-parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test. 5) According to the established evaluation index for "the efficacy ", the efficacy symptomatic chart of Chinese medicine was statistically analyzed: the curative rate was 25.93% of, significantly effective rate was 53.70%, the effective rate was 14.81%, while the ineffective rate was 5.56%, which showed a total efficacy of 94.44%.After 4 weeks of treatment, the data from the 11 cases of SC group were analyzed. The difference between pre and post treatment of PSQI in MCJLMD group was 7.41±2.54 while that in SC group was 5.27±1.92. The data were normal distribution and homogeneity in variance, so independent-sample t-test was applied. A significant statistical difference existed between groups(P <0.05). Conclusion: 1) The insomnia of dysfunction of Qi activity type might be common at the early stage. Its main pathogenesis is probably the dysfunction of Qi activity, mainly because the suppression of yang fails to communicate with yin and leads to insomnia. 2) MCJLMD might be more effective on increasing the sleeping time and improving sleeping quality for this type of insomnia. 3) MCJLMD might have a better effect on improving the symptoms of insomnia caused by the dysfunction of Qi activity, such as difficulty falling asleep at night, thoughts wander before falling asleep, disruptive sleeping patterns, being dreamful, being upset and restless, headache, or heaviness in the head, weakness, cold limbs, palpitations, anorexia and constipation.
