Objective:There were large differences of ancient and modern physicians understanding of Pi-syndrome with Treatise on Febrile Diseases.Through the relevant content of Pi-syndrome in the Treatise on Febrile Diseases,to restore a true concept of the Pi-syndrome.Play a valuable role in the study of "syndrome"and "symptom"in Traditional Chinese Medicine.Methods:Firstly, through a review of ancient literature,concluding ancient physicians’ understanding of Pi-syndrome in disease name, disease location,symptoms, etiology and pathogenesis and therapy and formula.Secondly, through analyzing articles and notes, the writer puts forward the connotation of pi-syndrome in Treatise on Febrile Diseases,and through differentiation between pi-syndrome, similar syndrome, and blocked-up chest syndrome, this paper confirms the conception of Pi-syndrome.Results:(1)Later physicians said the Pi-syndrome is syndrome of Pi-symptom,thinking six excesses pathogenic factors, improper diet and overstrain, seven emotions estrangement, phlegm and fluid retention, static blood, spleen and stomach weak, consumptive disease, and its therapies include activating of qi movement, relieving dyspepsia, warming spleen yang, Acrid Openning and Bitter Descending, clearing and nourishing, dehumidification phlegm, strengthening spleen and replenishing qi, active blood and disperse stagnation and nourishing yin tonify stomach.(2)modern medical research thinking of pi-syndrome can occur in the chest disease location and epigastric,there are many diseases related to pi-syndrome including: chronic gastritis, functional dyspepsia, gastroptosis and other diseases.(3)The Pi-syndrome in Treatise on Febrile Diseases refers in particular of a syndrome resulting from invisible heat obstructing middle energizer qi movement which makes epigastric fullness discomfortable.Conclusion:The Pi-syndrome in Treatise on Febrile Diseases specifically refers to epigastric lumpy stiffness. It is a syndrome that invisible heat obstructs the middle energizer qi movement which makes it uncommon up and down, then resulting in epigastric fullness discomfortable. The treatments of Pi-syndrome always with purging fire as the basic therapeutic method.
