Objective:The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of Duraphat and Tooth mousse in reducing enamel demineralization around orthodontic brackets, to s-eeking the reagent which is more effective worth of clinical popularization and ap-plication, for reducing the process of enamel demineralization around the orthodont-ic brackets. Methods: 60 extracted premolars from the patients of 13~18 years old were included, and they were cleaned by ultrasonic tooth cleaner, bond braces and divided into four groups. The first group of which is control one; Duraphat and G-C tooth mousse were applied to tooth surfaces around orthodontic brackets in the second and third groups respectively; In the fourth group combined Duraphat and Tooth mousse was applied. Closed the area of the braces around 2 mm. Emplying the method of Hu and Featherstone to prepare demineralization fluid and reminerali-zation fluid. All teeth were immersed cyclically in demineralization and remineralization liquid daily, keeping for 14 days. All teeth were performed by scanning elec-tron microscope. Measuring the change of superficial microhardness before and aft-er the experiment. Using analysis of variance of factorial design analyze the differ-ence between groups, comparing. Result: There is obvious enamel demineralization in control group, and enamel demineralization is not obvious in other three groups. The change of microhardness before and after experiment in Duraphat group, To-oth mousse group, and combine group is lower than that of the control group(p<0.05). the difference in Tooth mousse group is the least. Conclusion:This findings shows that Tooth mousse, Duraphat and the combination one can reduce enamel demineralization and promote remineralization around orthodontic brackets in vitro, which are worth popularizing in clinical application.
