Purpose To explore the diagnosis value of enhancement mode and quantitative analysis of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) for benign and malignant nodules in thyroid.Materials and methods A retrospective analysis on CEUS modes of 82 thyroid solid nodes. Post-operative pathological comparison was available for all nodules. Retrospective analysis on the mode of contrast media entering nodules, whether there is circular enhancement, whether it is even, as well as enhancement strength, plus time intensity curve (TIC) was conducted to record arrive time (AT) of each quantitative parameter, time to peak (TTP), peak intensity (PI) and rate of curve (k).Result There were 82 solid nodes in thyroid in total. The post-operative pathology validated malignant nodes totaled 32, being all papillocarcinoma, and CEUS result showed centrality and low enhancement dominate; benign nodules totaled 50, thereinto 22 were nodular goiter,16 were nodular and adenoma hyalinosis,8 were adenoma and 4 were subacute thyroiditis. Most of benign nodes took the form of circular enhancement, etc. The differences in modes of benign and malignant enhancement were of statistics significance (P<0.05). In TIC quantitative parameters of malignant nodules, differences in AT, TP, PI, k of benign and malignant nodules were of statistics significance (P<0.05). TIC curve of malignant node mainly showed the ascending ramus of curve at focus was relatively gentle, with low peak intensity. The TIC curve of benign nodules nearly overlapped with surrounding normal structure. Conclusion Enhancement mode and quantitative analysis of contrast-enhanced ultrasound of thyroid malignant node and benign node are of statistics differences, which has important clinical significance.
