The Prevalence Of Epidemic Disasters And The Change Of Public Health Consciousness In Guangdong And Guangxi Province During The Republican Period

The republic period is important transition period in the development of chinese history when all kinds of natural disasters occured frequently and seriously,especially epidemic disasters. And the epidemic disasters had became one of the major threats of people’ life and healthIn Guangdong and Guangxi province, epidemic disasters occurred every year during the Republican period. And the epidemic frequency is up to 100%.The epidemic disasters occurred frequently during the early and later period of the Republic of China,while occurred less frequently during the republic medium term.Meanwhile,the prevalence of epidemics seemed more preferable to spring and summer.During the whole period, plague and cholera and smallpox were the main three types of all types of the epidemic disasters which occurred in the two province,especially the plague epidemics.In the spatial distribution, the interprovincial and interregional and county international space difference of epidemic disasters is obvious.The general characters of the epidemic distribution showed that epidemic prevalence in the coastal areas was more severe than in other areas.And the distributional area formed a belt of northeast to southwest distribution of epidemic disasters.Followed by the main epidemics distribution,the plague distributional feature is similar to the general characters,and the cholera concentrated in big cities,while the smallpox and the malaria occurred in the inland areas and the mountains. In addition,the regional natural environment factors such as topography,climate,natural disasters,natural infectious area and social environment factors such as population,traffic,trade,war have the direct or indirect relationship with epidemic disasters distribution.Epidemic disasters in Guangdong and Guangxi province during the republic period are combined result of the natural and social environment.The public health system is make up of the health administrative system, the public health service system, and the epidemic prevention system.As the republic period is the start of the development of our country’s public health system,the public health system is imperfect in Guangdong and Guangxi province.Affected by the epidemic disasters,the public health system couldn’t work well,which had less effective defense for the epidemic disasters.While the public health system of Guangdong and Guangxi province had become perfect gradually during the process of epidemic disasters prevention.The epidemic disasters bring people mental torture which promote people’s epidemic prevention concepts and health awareness. As the promotion of people’s public health concepts and awareness,the whole social public health concepts changed little by little.The social elite advocates the construction of public health system actively such as the content and importance of the construction of public health system.The public health concepts of Guangdong and Guangxi government had implemented by inaction to active, from disorder to order, from the feudal superstition to science advanced.And the same time,the common people gradually accepted the concepts of public health and actively changed their behaviours.The change of the public health consciousness was intangible and long,but it had an huge impact on the whole society and promoted the social modernization process in China.)...
