Microwave ablation for liver tumors has been used in clinic.The principle is using microwave energy released by microwave antenna, which inserted pathological tissues percutaneously, make the temperature of local tissue rise, as the result, protein denaturation and apoptosis occurred in tumor cells. However, there are still some problems tumor microwave ablation currently. such as, the microwave parameters for treatment programs mainly depends on the doctor’s personal experience, the measurement accuracy for temperature field distribution of microwave antenna is not high, thecalculation of real-time temperature field distribution is still very difficult.In this paper, some research were aimed at some key issues of temperature field distribution for microwave ablation. The paper includes many aspects, setting up heat transfer model in biological tissue, measuring microwave antenna radiation and absorption rate of biological tissue, simulating thermal damaged region and temperature field distribution for microwave ablation, analyzing the effects of thermal parameters on temperature field distribution and so on. The purpose is to obtain results accurately on temperature field distribution of water-cooled antenna for microwave ablation, to provide a reference for the development of preoperative surgery planning. The contents of this paper are following:(1) Proposed a new method for solving the specific absorption rate of microwave ablation, which based on temperature measurement and considered with temperature rise and thermal conductivity items, and designed the experiment for measuring SAR distribution function of microwave antenna.(2) Finished the experiments for phantom and pork liver in vitro, obtained the experimental data of temperature lines and thermal damage region during ablation, also set up a database with them.(3) Developed microwave tumor ablation assistant system by Web browser, which has two functions- ablation region and treatment parameters forecast.(4) Established a FEM model for microwave ablation by COMSOL Multiphysics,simulated temperature field distribution of the phantom and pork liverin vitro experiments with computer, exploredthe influence of thermal parameters on temperature field distribution.The research in this paper is supported by the Special Funds basic research in scientific instruments of the National Natural Science Foundation of China(Grant No.81127006), its name is “the development of smart microwave ablation device with image-guided”.
