| Objective To explore the effects of prolonging the time of indwelling urethral catheter on reducing the occurrence of complications after severe hypospadias repair. Methods Collect the clinical date of 230 severe hypospadias patients that underwent one stage urethroplasty in our department from January 2013 to January 2016. According to the time of indwelling urethral catheter after operation, we divided the patients into the control group and test group. The control group including 196 patients pull out the urethral catheter at 7-12 days(average 8.95 days) postoperative. The test group including 34 patients pull out the urethral catheter at 14-30 days(average 20.53 days) postoperative.Compare and analyze the incidences of urinary fistula and urethral stricture between the two groups. Results In the control group, urinary fistula developed in 42 cases(21.4%), urethral stricture in 10 cases(5.1%),the total complication rates were 26.5%.In the test group, urinary fistula developed in 1 case(2.9%), urethral stricture in 2 cases(5.9%),the total complication rates were 8.8%.Conclusion Extending the time of indwelling urethral catheter to 14-30 days(average 20 days)can reduce the incidence of the urinary fistula after severe hypospadias repair, pull down the total complication rates and improve the success rate of surgery. |
