Background: The overall survival of colorectal cancer liver metastasis can improve if the hepatic resection with curative intent was done. However, the postoperative relapse rate is also high. There are many factors that influence the prognosis of patients, such as metastasis in regional lymph nodes, the diameter and number of liver metastasis, interval from primary tumor resection to diagnosis of the liver metastasis. And the prognostic value of the location of metastasis lesions was rarely discussed. This content will make a research on it.Objective: To assess the influence about location of liver metastasis on prognosis of colorectal cancer liver metastasis. Methods: With a collection of 51 patients who suffered from colorectal cancer liver metastasis at The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between 2010 and 2015 was done. All of these patients had been received liver resection with curative intent. These patients were divided into two groups: centrally located liver metastasisand peripherally located liver metastasis according to the difference of the distribution. The comparison of prognosis between the centrally liver metastasis and the peripherally liver metastasis will be done by a retrospective study. Results: The 3-year overall survival and disease-free rates of the 51 patients were 58.7% and 23.1%.The difference of the overall survival and disease-free rates between the two groups were significant(P=0.003 and P=0.034). The univariate analysis revealed that centrally located liver metastasis, maximal diameter of liver metastasis≥5cm, number of liver metastasis > 1 elevated overall survival rates, only the location of liver metastasis influence the disease-free rates. Cox regression analysis revealed that maximal diameter and the location of liver metastasis were independent risk factors for the overall survival rates of patients(P=0.014,P=0.018).Conclusions: The location of liver metastasis was a significant risk factor for patients suffered from colorectal liver metastasis, and patients with the centrally located liver metastasis had a poor prognosis.
