This paper consists of two parts. The first part is review of Angelica L. plants, which includes the following contents: their distribution and species, chemical compositions, pharmacological activity, progress on research of Angelica sinensis and other aspects; The second part is about experiments, which had studied the chemical constituents from n-bu OH extraction of Angelica sinensis. Dried roots of Angelica sinensis are extracted by relux with acetone and 95% alcohol. Then the extracts are extracted with different solvents, such as petroleum ether, Et OAc and n?bu OH. In the end, there are four extractions obtained, petroleum ether extraction, Et OAc extraction, n?butanol extraction and water extraction. Then n-butanol extraction were isolated by silica gel colum chromatograph, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and TLC. The structures of these compounds are elucidated on the basis of 1H?NMR, 13C?NMR, ESI?MS and other spectral techniques.Sixteen compounds were obtained from n-bu OH extraction of Angelica sinensis. Thirteen compounds were identified by spectral techniques, such as ESI?MS, 1H?NMR, 13C?NMR and so on. The compounds are maltose(1), senkyunolide R(2), senkyunolide S(3), β?sitosterol(4), sucrose(5), banegasine(6), 1,2?di?O?hexadeca? noyl?sn?glycero?3?phosphorylcholine(7), 1?O?hexadecanoyl?sn?glycero?3?phosp? horylcholine(8), daucosterol(9), β?adenosine(10), 5?caffeoylquinic ammonium salt(11), D?threo?guaiacylglycerol 8?O?β?glucopyranoside(12), 2?methoxy?2?(4’?hyd? roxyphenyl) ethanol(13). Compounds 1, 6~8, 11~12 were isolated from family Umbelliferae for the first time. Compounds 2 and 3 were isolated from genus Angelica L. for the first time. Compound 10 is firstly reported from Angelica sinensis Radix. Structural identification of remaining monomers compounds and the antibacterial activities of all compounds will be done later.
