A Study Of Liu Wenjin’s Erhu Art

The creation of Erhu repertoire is the impetus and foundation to develop and prosperi it as an art form. With the common efforts of generations by the musicians, Erhu has been a representative form of traditional Chinese music. As an outstanding composer of contemporary Chinese folk music, the works of Liu Wenjin shed new light on the art of Erhu and promote it to a high level. Liu has a deep accumulation of traditional music and adept composing skills, many of his repertoires has been listed as assigned songs of significant music competitions, this makes a positive and profound impact on the compositions of contemporary Erhu art.Based on Liu Wenjin’s musical composition, this thesis concerns the analysis of unique content and format of his works, which including formation basis, creation idea, and the artistic properties. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze his works deeply, then to sum up the precious experience of Mr. Liu, which can provide reference for the development of Erhu art. The article asserts that Mr. Liu Wenjin explored a way to combine Chinese music with Western music successfully. He advocates that music should "humanistic quality above, and suit both refined and popular tastes". Also he insists that these artists should inherit the tradition and continue the innovation to provide guidance and inspiration for Erhu art.
