A Comparative Research Of Three Versions Of Measure For Measure

Since the birth in Ancient Greece till now, drama has always been a widely popular formof art. Drama is a kind of special form of literature which is not only a literary text, but alsothe performing art, so the duality of drama determines its different ways of translation fromthe other genres. Compared with the translation and translation researches of fiction andpoetry, etc. the history of drama translation and drama translation research is relatively short.Besides, due to the specialty of drama literature and the complication of drama translation,drama translation research has always been lack of the systematic theoretical guidance andhard to have a rational evaluation. However, since the important position of drama in theworld literature and the significant role of drama translation in promoting cultural exchangeand guiding performance, it is extremely urgent to build a scientific, fair and objectiveevaluation system for drama translation. Recently, the breakthrough of Stylistics of Drama inits research methods has provided a scientific and objective platform for dramatic evaluationsystem. Stylistic of Drama is a relatively new area of drama translation research which adoptslinguistics, especially pragmatics and discourse analysis to the analysis of drama text. Thispaper, in view of Stylistic of Drama, attempts to have a comparative research of three versions(respectively Ying Ruocheng, Zhu Shenghao and Liang Shiqiu) of Measure for Measure withthe help of discourse marker, turn-taking and Speech Act Theory. The paper aims to apply thetheoretical tools of pragmatics and discourse analysis to the comparative research on threeversions, so as to broaden the way of drama translation research and enrich the practice ofcurrent research of drama translation. Moreover, it tries to contribute to build a scientific andobjective system of drama translation evaluation.
