In the Forties of the previous century, in “New Treasure Island” mangakaOsamu Tezuka introduced movie techniques in manga making and created a newform manga. It is undeniable that different scenes and angles nowadays in mangasare derived from the innovation from “New Treasure Island”. With continuousdevelopment and improvement a new form of manga language emerged in modernmangas. Modern mangas combine languages of film and split screens to create thedivision within the pages, camera angles, montage techniques and layout division, aswell as improved narrative techniques and character portraits. Mangas influencepeople’s aesthetic sense and taste unconsciously, especially young adults andteenagers. In Japan, modern manga is an important cultural product and lines equallywith literature and film on an important cultural position. In both economical as wellas ideological sense it has an important role.Modern mangas, as a perfect manifestation, has its own special language andsymbol sules. The analysis of the language is an important discussion point of thedevelopment of modern manga. The author focused on the weak start point of manga,from the origin to further distinction between traditional and modern manga and itsinheritance, and explained the construction and expression of used language. Theauthor also attempted to answer the basic questions like,“What is modern manga”,“How is its expression”,“What are the rules of the language and symbols”, andanalyzed the literal, artistic and aesthetical meaning of modern manga. This thesisprovides new perspectives in manga research and theoretical basis and creativeguidance, as well as contributes to the contemporary manga industry in China.
