The World Of Youth In Zhang Yueran’s Novel: The Human Care And Aesthetic Redemption Of The Plight

This paper attempts to discuss the dilemma of youth and ways to find redemption in thisplight in the novels of Zhang Yueran, which has shown the author’s human caring and senseof aesthetics, so that the paper can dig out the value of literary concept in the Zhang Yueran’snovels.The adolescent in Zhang Yueran’s novel try to transcend predicament of being throughthe aesthetic redemption, and lead to the freedom of life. Eros and desire of growing up ariseand become more powerful in adolescence, these two desire together constitute theadolescent’s predicament of being in Zhang Yueran’s novel. Difficulties arise due toinnocence of the youth and the youth’s insistence on innocence. This insistence contradictedwith the secular’s pressures. They try to comfort themselves through religious and emotionaldependence which doesn’t work, but ultimately redeemed by aesthetic redemption.There is growth dilemma in the world of youth. Difficulties arise when the adolescenttouch the world of adults for the first time, the youth’s insistence on innocence is as tenaciousas the adults’ insistence on secular’s rules, leading to insurmountable barrier between theyouth and the adults. Facing barriers and confrontation, the adolescent in Zhang Yueran’snovel realize, only the growth can help them get rid of the predicament, but the purpose ofgrowing up is back to the fairy world isolated with the adults, so they have to fall into thiskind of "growth" paradox.Eros dilemma appear in the paradox of growth. Time impacts Eros, rationality resistsEros, evil strangles with Eros, these three elements are antithetic against Eros. On the otherhand, asceticism, money worship and flesh hedonism dissimilate Eros to bring about theplight of Eros and destruct the integrity of person. By manifesting the Eros dilemma, ZhangYueran aims to reveal that human cannot addict to Eros, escape from Eros or dissimilate Eros,human can only sublimate Eros.Facing the predicament of growth and Eros, the adolescent in Zhang Yueran’s novelhave to seek for self-redemption. They are unwilling to deal with the pain of living withpractical philosophy, then face to the religious and emotional dependence. The adolescent tryto appease the soul with "forgiveness","hope","love" and other religious beliefs, call for hope with emotion and selfless dedication, the moral force and compassion in it have shownZhang Yueran’s human caring, but this kind of harmony is ultimately fragile and short-lived.Zhang Yueran has constructed a dreamy, claustrophobic, timeless and beautiful castle asthe ultimate redemption to escape the dilemma with words; she has expressed that thebeautiful things has possibility of transcendental redemption by showing their transcendentalfeatures(beyond reality, beyond the mundane, beyond the death) in her novel. Zhang Yueranconcerned about the plight of youth, but is lack of powerful spirit, so she tends to produceaesthetic appeal naturally, also allows her works of literary sad color.
