As an influential Russian writer, Fyodor Dostoevsky dived into every aspect of modern life and put focus on the human nature, exploring the future survival of humanity philosophy with the sensitive perspective. As a result, Dostoevsky not only developed a new way to interpret the modern literature work, but also boosted British modern literature literature.Taking the circumstance of British literature at the beginning of the20th century as the background and "Bloomsbury" as example, this paper will mainly choose three members as objects of discussion,including Virginia Woolf, D.H.Lawrence and Joseph Conrad.It will respectively conduct from the literary technique (stream of consciousness), literary aesthetic (source of human nature) and the role of writer (self-sticking or self-betray) in order to explore all these writers’inheritance and innovation on their creative skills, aesthetic thoughts and personal philosophy from Dostoevsky and unmask Dostoevsky’s influence on the British modernism literature. The first chapter introduces the condition of British social culture, ideologic and religion in the early20th century, and discusses the possibility of which impact on the British literature revolution.The secondary chapter lays an emphasis on the influence of Russian modernism represented by Dostoevsky on the development of British modernism literature, especially on the avantgarde writing circle "Bloomsbury".On the basis of the work,the tertiary chapter makes a detailed analysis of three members from the circle Virginia Woolf, D.H.Lawrence and Joseph Conrad who made a multifaceted cognition and inheritance from Dostoevsky, which extends Dostoevsky’s influence throughout the development of British modernism literature.Overall, striving to coordinate the traditional way of literature comments rather than pursuing the theoretical construction, this paper makes an effort to demonstrate Dostoevsky’s influence to British modernism literature from a new angle,and fan out the discussion from the specific writer to the whole modernism literature.
