License agreement, as a type of commercial legal document, is the legal insurance of trading. High translation quality of a license agreement plays an important role in safeguarding the parties’obligations and rights. This report is based on the author’s translation practice of a license agreement during she worked in a translation company as a part-time translator. The author has successfully completed the translation task under the guidance of her tutor.Nord’s functionalist translation theory, which lays emphasis on two parts:function and loyalty, is applicable in guiding the author’s translation. What’s more, combined the clients requirements, the author formed3-Cs translation criteria to control the translation quality, they are Correctness, Completeness and Concreteness.A good translation requires the author to have a solid linguistic foundation and translation theory foundation, as well as the professional knowledge about the translation task.During the translation process, the author encountered many problems, for there are many professional terms and long sentences in the source text. According to Nord’s functionalist translation theory and3-Cs criteria, the author put forward some translation strategies and methods from microcosmic to macroscopic. In word process, strategies such as omission, amplification and conversion are used to ensure the translation to be correct and concrete. While translating long sentences, the author used different translation methods, such as translating in the original order, translating in the reversed order and division to ensure a good translation.Due to the limited time, lack of knowledge and inadequate experience of the translator, it is unavoidable that there must be some deficiencies existed in the translation. In light of the limitation of the study, much more professional researches on this field should be carried out.
