Testing for Language Teachers is one of Cambridge Books for Language Teachersedited by international educational authorities and published by Cambridge UniversityPress. This book is aimed at providing some theoretical guides on the testing of Englishabilities as a language for English teachers and researchers specialized in Englishteaching. In this book, chapter eight and nine, selected to be the translation material, arethe climax of the whole book, describing common testing techniques and ways toformulate effective writing tests.This translation practice report is in fact a thesis reviewing the whole translationprocess of chapter eight and nine from the perspective of George Steiner’s FourfoldTranslation Motion theory through explanation and case analysis. This report has fourparts. The first part is a task description, including the introduction of contents of thewhole book and the explanation of text characteristics. The second part provides a briefintroduction to the translation theory of George Steiner. The third part describes mytranslation process from the perspective of George Steiner’s Fourfold TranslationMotion: Trust, Aggression, Incorporation and Restitution. The forth part makes aconclusion for the report from my translation experience by discussing the subjectivityof the translator and giving some suggestions on how to improve translators’comprehensive quality.The translation practice report is aimed at inspiring translators’ awareness on theimportance of their comprehensive quality on the translated script through illustratingthe problems I have met in the translation process and illuminating solutions to thoseproblems, thus improving the translation quality of the whole Chinese translationindustry.
