With the development of cross-cultural communication in recent years, a lotof documentaries were translated into various languages to play in foreign countries.Subtitle translation of films is becoming increasingly important, furthermore, it hasbecome a cultural bridge of communication among nations. Therefore, the translator,in addition to taking into account the cross-cultural factors, must also take the choiceof translation strategies into consideration. From the point of view of thecross-cultural perspective, this thesis chooses one of the documentaries of the StateCouncil Information Oiffce translated by the author herself entitled "Daoism at aGlance: The Ecological Aspects (Episode Three)" to analyze the differences betweenChinese and Western cultures, exploring the translation strategies of titles of people,names of Chinese medicine terms and Taoist vocabularies and sentences. The authorrespectively analyzes the choice of translation strategies of typical phrases andsentences under different cultural backgrounds and different contexts. And theauthor also discusses specific translation methods including: ampliifcation, omission,analogy and annotation. Finally the author draws a conclusion: when we translatesuch texts, appropriate translation strategies should be chosen according to the textcontent, domestication and foreignization should be combined together in order tobetter transfer the Chinese culture.
