Being an indispensable part of the Hong Kong’s subculture, the comediesmade by Stephen Chow were thriving, its achievements is not only due to the reflectionof current situation of the underprivileged, but rich postmodern atmosphere;whichabsolutely brings about a special age of Hong Kong’ comedies, meanwhile, contributesto the historical peak of Stephen Chow’s career. The success and gain of StephenChow’s nonsensical films, which partially represents the recovery of “local awareness”among local residents in Hong Kong, as well as its comprehensive sense to the furtherdevelopment of China’s comedies. Meanwhile, following the “Mo Lei Tau” movies andits related culture, the culture of “loser” is springing up with the widespread of network,according to the academic definition for the culture of loser, it’s a culture represents thepost-modernism and deconstruction, it is not only related with self-abandoneddecadence, but the backbone of despising the main trend, to suspend the legitimacy withself-mockery, to express the disagreement about sublime with degradation. itsemergence closely connected with the development of unbalanced national economy,especially the rapidly growth of Internet, therefore, the culture of “loser” always becalled as the network subculture. In recent year, the network subculture, which gainedwidely popularities within a short time, repeatedly triggered the public discussion on thecultural phenomenon of “loser” nationwide. Accordingly, popular film 《Lost InThailand》,which is closely associated with those disadvantaged、underprivileged, orloser, has broken the new record of domestic movie box office, it is more likely to beillustrated as the return of “Mo Lei Tau”movie with mainland version.my thesis willrespectively analyze two cultural phenomenon(“Mo Lei Tau”film and “loser” networksubculture) from four angles:audience psychology、 critical awareness ofwork-creating、cultural property and method of consumption、tendency of cynicism. Theinitial attention be mainly drawn on cross-cultural aesthetic implication,Which is involved in the “Mo Lei Tau” movies of Hong Kong and cultural phenomenon of “loser”. Secondly, pursuing the emotional or spiritual aspects inStephen Chow’s comedies, which is originally created by Chinese; then makingprofoundly investigation and exploration about two subcultures(“Mo Lei Tau”movie、“loser” network subculture), on the basis of further explanation and understanding onthe postmodern cultural characteristics of Mass media, in addition,reviewing additionalproblems from the improvements of this two subcultures that I mentioned as following:How to make an approximate judgment of the integration between western cultureand China’s typical ideas when Chinese comedies directors were composing theirscripts; How the media fulfill its moral and educational obligation through diversifyingchannels or types,namely, the media should brings out positive impact on the aestheticvalue orientation of people;moreover, objectively evaluation will be taken about thereferenced value and double motivated concept of the network subculture--“loser”,which has being play an essential role in the innovation and development ofdistinctively Chinese style films.
