Classifiers in Chinese, flexible in usage and large in quantity, are regarded as oneof the characteristics that makes Chinese distinguish itself from other languages.Undoubtedly, it is a difficult part in Chinese gramma study. In this paper, we select3threadiness classifiers “Si”,“Xian” and “Lv” to be the objects of study. Basedon syntactic and semantic feature description, we analyze the similarities anddifferences among these3threadiness classifiers, exploring the restrictions whenthey are collocated with NP, researching the grammaticalization process, anddiscussing the deriving mechanism. We are attempting to find some new idea andoffer some useful help in classifiers teaching of TCFL. The entire content of this paperis divided into the following5chapters.The first chapter demonstrates the purpose and significance of this paper.Research comments on relative study, definition and classification of classifiers, previous as well as current research results are also exposited in this part. The second chapter is organized by researching these3classifiers from twoaspects. On one hand, we analyze the syntax function of the threadiness classifiers, trying to find out the similarities and differences among them. On the other hand, the semantic differences in overlapping usage of threadiness classifiers are discussed. The third part highlights the semantic selectivity of the threadiness classifierswhen they are collocated with NP. The discussion is developed in three respects, including (1) the selection of NP and the internal diversity;(2) the counter-restrictionfunction of the threadiness classifiers;(3) main restricting factors.Based on describing the etymological meaning of “Si”,“Xian” and “Lv”,the grammaticalization process are carefully studied in the fourth chapter. And someconclusions of the deriving mechanism are drawn in this part. The Fifth chapter provides a thorough description and analysis on threadinessclassifiers from the aspects of syntax, semanteme and pragmatics. It also generalizesand summarizes the usage of “Si”,“Xian” and “Lv” by applying related theoryof cognitive linguistics.
