| Language Leader (Elementary) is a new textbook published by HigherEducation Press. This textbook which is published in2012completely dependson the College English Curriculum Requirement (CECR) in China. Thistextbook is used in the English course for music, art, and P.E. majors in InnerMongolia normal university.The author does the research from the perspectiveof the users consisting of students and teachers. Students play an important rolein the teaching material analysis. Particularly, the main user group of thismaterial is students majoring in music, art, and P.E, which is a small group ofstudents in colleges and universities. The study of English teaching research andteaching material evaluation for them is rare.This research combines of qualitative research and quantitative research.The research is based on the theory of Cunningsworth textbook evaluation theory,including the internal and external evaluation of the teaching material. Internalevaluation aims at teaching material itself and the rationality and validity. Theexternal evaluation aims at the applicability of groups using the textbooks. Theauthor carries out a questionnaire survey and interview to find the condition ofusing the textbooks. The evaluation is conducted through questionnaires andinterviews to investigate220music, art, and P.E major students who wereselected randomly from Inner Mongolia normal universityThis thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces thebackground, significance, purpose, and the structure of the thesis. The secondchapter provides an important theoretical background, and literature review,including (1)the definition and function of the teaching material(2)the textbookevaluation theory, teaching material evaluation standard and methods(3)the user need analysis of the teaching material, the college English curriculum standards.The third chapter is a brief introduction of this textbook including writingbackground, writing system, writing concept and characteristics, and the basicframework and so on. The fourth chapter is the research design and methodsincluding research questions, the research object, research tools, and the datacollection and analysis. The fifth chapter is the analysis and description of thesurvey, it introduces the basic situation of students, and students of Englishlearning need analysis. This part is the results of investigation and summaries theadvantages and disadvantages of the textbook according to the results of the data.There are many advantages of the textbook, for example, the arrangement isreasonable, a lot of language inputs are included, and there are effectivecooperative learning. Some disadvantages are found, such as no exercises for thecultivation of translation skills, and ignoring the local culture. The last chapterdraws the conclusion of this study; the textbook meets the Higher EducationEnglish Teaching Basic Requirements and meets the needs of teachers andstudents. Meanwhile, put forward some reasonable opinions and Suggestions forthe students and teachers when using the book. |
