Among numerous traditional Qin pieces retained till now,"The Plum Blossom" is undoubtedly a widespread and very well-known masterpiece. Besides two representative performing versions which are still popular in the Qin circles-"The New Plum" and "The Old Plum", there are a lot of silent Qin scores of preserved in tablature collections published in the Ming and Qing Dynasties in the fact. In view of this, the author tries to clarify the derived and rheological context of score versions, and as objectively as possible to explain why this piece could be stereotyped as today’s "The New Plum" and "The Old Plum", and what the continuity and accumulation of the so-called "traditional" are behind them, through comprehensively sorting out, comparing and analyzing tablature collections published in the Ming and Qing Dynasties of "The Plum Blossom", and expanding the research on those two representative performing versions.This topic belongs to the category of the Ancient Chinese Music History, and all the research are based on interpreting Qin tablatures in Ming and Qing Dynasties of "The Plum Blossom", so its studying methods emphasize on the Tablature and also adopted in the Musical Philology.This dissertation consists of the introduction, four chapters of main body and the conclusion. The Chapter One is "The Idea and Establishment of Classification Principles of Score Versions of Qin Piece ’The Plum Blossom’", which states separately three ideas of classification principles on this piece’s score versions, and the third idea is the only viable classification principle which is established ultimately. The Chapter Two is "The Exploration into the Early Score Versions of the Qin Piece’The Plum Blossom’", which clarifies the developing context of the three early score version branches with three structure types derived out of the earliest version:The Shen Qi Mi Pu version. The Chapter Three is "The Exploration into the Late Score Versions of the Qin Piece’The Plum Blossom’", which clarifies the rheological context of two score version branches:The Feng Xuan Xuan Pin version and The Bo Ya Xin Fa (another version) version evolved by the fourth branch with the fourth structure type, and those two representative performing versions ("The New Plum" and "The Old Plum") were born out of them. The Chapter Four is "The Modern Interpretation of Two Late Score Version Branches of the Qin Piece ’The Plum Blossom’-the Version Comparison between Wu Jinglue’s "The New Plum" and Zhang Ziqian’s "The Old Plum", which expands the study of ancient score versions to the modern performing versions.
