The Chinese nation is a ancient country with a splendid civilization and a longhistory. During the five millennium’s history,a lot of ancient buildings and ancientdwellings have been left in the south and north of our country.Ancient town is a nodalpoint between country and city which is the traditional settlement scattered in broadareas in our country.It is the human settlements gradually formed in the process ofhistorical development in a thousand years, such as tangstreet, songcheng andgrandparents’home. Ancient town is the main carrier of local history,culture, geography,folk custom and religious beliefs. It is also the spiritual home that arouse our memoriesand important certificates of all aspects of our research. The earliest prototype ofancient town in Bashu area has been found in sui and tang dynasties which has a longhistory.Ancient town should focus on the word anient.The word of anient is not only theembodiment of the cultural heritage of anicent custom and ancient rhyme,but also theBashu ancestors’dialectical comprehension of the old words “Discard their dross andselect their essence.”Bashu ancient town has distinctive geographical features,carryingthe wisdom of Bashu ancestors.Architecture of Ganlan style is the main architecturalform. Building materials were choosed local materials according to local conditions.Based on factors such as its site selection and overall style,bashu ancient towns can bedivided into different types.The towns of different styles compromise the naturalbeauty of mountains and water, rhythm of overlapping houses, the line of Ganlan stylebuilding,simple colors and customs of ancient towns. I start my research of these questions taking the the ancienttown and landscape painters in Bashu area for example.
