Ian McEwan is one of the best and influential writers in contemporary Britishliterary, he became famous in the1970’s,and for Chinese reader to know was inthe1990’s.Nowadays,McEwan is very popular with the domestic readers.McEwan’sworks mainly write about violence, incest,Sadism,masochism,war,history,science andtechnology,etc.,with a variety of styles,such as dark, terror, absurd,black humor,therefore, he was named "terrorist Ian" and get the title of "national writer".To get suchrecognition, mainly because his novel contains the thought of redemption,and thisthought makes his works strong vitality and tremendous influence.But so far,academiccommunity ignored this aspect. So,the study of the redemption theme in McEwan’snovels can make up for some research gaps, and is of great significance.In this paper,for the perspective of subject research,choose the three works in hisdifferent period,"The Cement Garden","Atonement" and "Solar," as the main researchobject,and Combined with his other works at the same time, the related interviews andcomments on his redemption thought, to facilitate the readers a deep understanding ofMcEwan and the connotation and value of his works.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter:introduction.IntroduceMcEwan’s growth process,experience of creation and his main works,and puts forwardthe innovation of the thesis topic selection and the significance of the paper. At thesame time,make clear the connotation of the redemption,Show that "redemption" isone of the daily care of oneself;Then discussed the relationship between fiction andredemption,the relationship between McEwan and redemption.These is in order toexplain redemption is the enduring theme.The second chapter:the cause of McEwan’s redemption thought.Respectivelyfrom McEwan’s attitude to the reality and the posture to writing,analysis the formationprocess of his thought of redemption.The third chapter: lost and redemption in McEwan’s novel. Take Freud’spsychoanalytic theory for example. From the identity, love, the contradiction betweenthe ideal and the reality, analyze the survival predicament of the typical characters inMcEwan’s novels, and analyze McEwan’s exploration to the road of human self-salvation, reveal his redemption thought.The fourth chapter:the connotation of redemption.Combined with the empiricaldata and his novels,to find out the connotation in his works,and pointed out thatMcEwan’s novels is not only the self redemption,and for the redemption of modern.The fifth chapter:conclusion.Summarizes the whole text,and figures out thatMcEwan’s works contain a profound thought of redemption, so as to enhance thereaders understanding of McEwan works.
