In this report, the author lists the important points of Politeness principle through hisown experience in a simulated conversation. This report is framed in three mainparts:Forewords, Main body, and Summary.Forewords is the preparation work. In this chapter, the author introduces thebackground and basis points of Politeness Principle. This chapter is made up of two parts.In the first part, the author gives a detailed introduction on Leech’s theory combined withthe author’s realization of the Politeness Principle. In the second part, the author states alot about the euphemism which is believed to be very important by the author. The authoris convinced that the application of euphemism is the core of Politeness Principle, Itcan bring the best performance of Politeness Principle by seeking the most agreementsand avoiding disagreements. A successful business or commercial chatting can beachieve through this method.Different people have different understandings about Politeness Principle. For thisreason, some disagreements on the partition of Politeness Principle is born. In the mainbody of this report, the author chooses five most practical and useful terms of PolitenessPrinciple based on detailed cases. They are: Tact Principle, Generosity Principle, PolitePrinciple, Agreement Principle, and Sympathy Principle. With these vivid cases, readerscan accept and study the Politeness Principle in the easiest way, and apply them in themost flexible fashion in their life and work.In the summary, the author sums up the differences between China and Occidentalcountries. In China, Collectivism plays a significant role in the culture, Chinese society isframed in the unit of family. On these manners, the author gives a forecasting of thePoliteness Principle developing trend.The author heartily hope readers can realize Politeness Principle and apply itappropriately with the help of this report. Meanwhile, and learn some more knowledgeabout the differences between China and the Occidental cultures, as well as thecollectivism in China.
