Dated back to the end of16th Century in Italy, opera which integrates with music,theater, literature, dance, stage art, is a comprehensive art. By virtue of western operastyle, Chinese national opera was born of China native culture. Since the late1920s,Chinese national opera had been growing to emerge more independent and wholeartistic characteristics. With the development of society, lots of new national opera arecreated since contention of a hundred schools of thought in the Chinese circle ofliterature and art. Sorrowful Dawn, a lyric tragedy, is one of the far-reaching andpopular Chinese operas. This opera stops a gap in Chinese opera circle in the past tenyears and marks a new era in Chinese national opera, which take Chinese nationalonto the world stage, drawing much global attention.From the analysis of the notion and the development process of Chinese nationalopera, this thesis aims to unscramble the musical feature and female characterizationin Sorrowful Dawn. Subsequently the author presents a rational thinking on the studyof Chinese national opera development.The thesis is divided into five parts:The first part introduces the notions and the research background and researchmethods in the thesis. Meanwhile, the theoretical significance and application valueon the research will be presented.The second part defines the notion of national opera and sketches the process ofnational opera development.In the third part.The author makes a introduction of the composer,creationbackground and the plot of the sorrowful dawn.The fourth part makes an analysis of the three female characters Lin Mei, BaiYun, Yu Wei,in aspects of melody,performance on the stage,singing style,accompaniment and harmony of the opera the sorrowful dawn.In the fifth part,the author expresses some of his enlightening thoughts throughhis study of the opera the sorrowful dawn. |
