As cultural inheritance of a nation, Children’s literature works as the bridge forcultural exchanges and communications between countries. Meanwhile, increasingnumber of countries join in the trend of globalization and are exchanging cultureswith each other, thus to facilitate mutual understanding and different culturalknowledge. Hence, multifarious Children’s literature works win large quantity ofpopulation and keep dynamical evolution in the great literature market; in this case,translation of this kind of literature is getting more important.The theme hereby is on translation for the first chapter of Harry Potter and thePhilosopher’s Stone. This chapter mainly starts from the debut of the Dursleys, withHarry Potter falling from the sky and a conversation between Dumbledore andprofessor McGonagall. Through an overall analysis of the novel, the purpose of thisarticle is to lexicologically and syntactically analyze the vivid translation method onthe basis of skopos theory.This article demonstrates that translators can not do translation stiffly word byword, instead, he or she should associate its genre with the readers’ demands as wellas the work’s cultural backgrounds. Only the translation work based on theory andtranslator-reader communication is favored by its readers. Translation of Children’sLiterature is no exception.
