The majority of the Nongguang village and Nahe village in Tianlin county ofGuangxi are Zhuang people. In the past several hundred years, the villagers of thetwo villages held memorial ceremony for their ancestors who are Yaos respectivelyevery year. All the villagers including the aged and children in Nongguang gatheredtogether on the25th of the first lunar month to hold memorial ceremony forYaoniang every year. And they pray that Yaoniang will bless them have a bumperharvest in this year. The villagers in Nahe hold memorial ceremony for Yaowang onthe19th of the first lunar month every year to pray that Yaoniang will bless themhealthy and safe. This article studies the memorial ceremony for Yaoniang andMemorial ceremony for Yaowang, using the theory of the ethnology,anthropology,religion, and sociology comprehensively, and analyses the symbolic significance andfunction of the ceremonies from a multidisciplinary angle. Moreover, this articleexplores the development process between Zhuang people and Yao people reflectedin the memorial ceremony for Yaoniang and Memorial ceremony for Yaowang. Thisarticle shows the current situation of the memorial ceremony for Yaoniang andmemorial ceremony for Yaowang and discusses the trouble that the traditionalceremony faces in the matter of inheritance and development and the affect broughtby the authority’s participation in the ceremony.
