Research For Director Quan-An Wang’s Image Narrative Style In The New Western Movies Sight

The New Western Movies is firstly referred to as a culture concept in themovie industry. First of all, standing on the historical background, comparedwith the Western Movie at early stage when it was initially born, the culturebackground has been changed earth-shakkingly. Now we are living in a timewhich has been changed drastically with the development of the civilization.Typically, the definition of the west, the flavor of the west, the environment ofthe west and the geo culture of the west have also been changed. Secondly,standing on the culture attitude, the Western Movies and its culture concept hadbecome a cultural symbol which was created by the Fifth Generation Directors.So now, if the culture attitude of the movie remains unchanged, then there is apossibility to lose the audience and the box office. We are all worrying aboutthat the art is produced in similar way and the brand effect by the predecessorsand the impact by the outstanding directors can not be neglected. If you want tofind a successful way to break the former director’s bound which has got a lot ofbrilliant achievements, you must develop new ideas, new methods and newhorizons, and only in this way can you create a new suitable growthenvironment. So from the theoretical view point, the Fifth Generation Directorshad made The Western Movies reach to a high level through the unremittingstruggle from the1980’s. So far the Sixth Generation Director’sachievements have been slowly exceeding predecessors. Director Quan-AnWang is one of the Sixth Generation Directors who was born in the west andwith strong western characteristics. His movies contains strong western flavorand colorful artistic characteristics, now recent of which can be regarded asrepresentative of the New Western Movie. The main contents of this thesis include the following four parts: firstly, theintroduction part summaries the purpose of this thesis, the significance of thethesis and the relevant research findings of director Quan-An Wang. Secondly,the definition of the Western Movies, the New Western Movies and so on, whichare related to the object of this thesis is given, in order to explain the level ofdirector Quan-An Wang’s position and function, who is now serving as arepresentative of the Sixth Generation Director in the New Western Moviesschools. Thirdly, by analyzing four different movies from director Quan-AnWang which not only have the traditional feature but can also show the NewWestern Movie’s characteristics, the variation or change of his movie and thedifference between the Western Movies and the New Western Movies areinvestigated in details to obtain the artistic style of the movies governed by theNew Western Movie sight. The importance of this thesis is to research theartistic style of director Quan-An Wang and three aspects including thecharacter image, the audio-visual language and the folk custom in Quan-AnWang’s four masterpiece are investigated to obtain Quan-An Wang’s ownspecial charm in the New Western Movies sight. Finally, combining with theresearch of director Quan-An Wang and the status of the New Western Movies,we try to give several suggestions to help the New Western Movies gettingbetter development in the nowadays Chinese movie market.
