Housing construction is the epitome of the development of human society, housingconstruction in different times not only reflects the level of productivity,but also reflectssocial development in this era. Housing first relates to the level of productive forces,including various kinds of architectural technology; secondlyrelates to the livingconditions of human group. Are they settled or nomadic? Did they live in the city or thecountryside, plain or mountains? Then it involved in human social organization andstatus of marriage and family. Is it the dualmarriage and monogamy? Is it a big familyor some small family? Is it clan inhabited or mixed? Finally it relates to culturaldevelopment, such as religion, art, customs and the communication between differentcultural. the Three Gorges Region have so many ancient relics in the archaeologicaldiscovery, the architectural form housing sites rich and unique style. It is thecrystallization of the ancient people’s wisdom and spirit. And it has the significantarchaeological and historical value.Because of the Yangtze River Three Gorges Project, many human living relics ofpre-Qin period were excavated. These archaeological discoveries, which has importantsignificance to the building form, structure, building techniques andmethods of thepre-Qin period in the Three Gorges Region. In this paper, on thebasis of previousstudies I combined with the new material on the housing relicsin the Three GorgesRegion, and complement it.Besides, we have a more systematic understanding ofhousing construction in the pre-Qin period. This paper is areview on the housing relicsof the pre-Qin period in the Three Gorges Region. First I elaborate the evolution onhousing construction and development of the pre-Qin periods in a longitudinal study,and analysis their characteristics on the basis of the data. Second I carry on across-sectional study on the each period of the housing relics’ location structure,construction method and interior decoration.The main content includes four chapters.Chapter one is the introduction.This chapter consists of six parts.Firstly is the research questions and the significance of the research; secondly is the domesticresearch status; thirdly is the research content and ideas; fourthly is the innovation ofthis paper; fifthly is the main method of research; lastly is about problems in researchand the corresponding solving measures.Chapter two is the introduction and research of the pre-Qin period housingunearthed remains of archaeological.It divided into six parts:firstly is an introduction onthe relics situation in the pre-Qin period;secondly is the housing relics situation in thePaleolithic period;thirdly is the housing relics situation in the Neolithic period;fourthlyis the housing relics situation in the Xia and Shang Dynasties;fifthly is the housingrelics situation in the Zhou Dynasties;sixth is the analysis and research about the relicssituation in the pre-Qin period.The analysis and study of housing unearthed remains inthe pre-Qin period is mainly from two aspects:on the one hand, there is theclassification of the housing unearthed remains;on the other hand, there is the analysisof the housing construction technology in the Three Gorges Region.Chapter three is the relationship between the evolution of the housing remains inthe Three Gorges Region and social formation.This discussion is divided into two parts:firstly is the evolution of the housing remains of the pre-Qin period in the Three GorgesRegion; secondly is the relationship between the remains development and socialformation.Chapter four is epilogue.This chapter summerizes the distribution of the housingremains and the evolution of each period. Then it analysisthe construction technologyand explore the relationship between the remains development and social formation.
