As an important part of decorative patterns, plant pattern now forms a special kind of visual language after experiencing five stages:embryonic stage, transformation stage, mature stage, flourishing stage and popularity stage. Applying plant pattern in visual communication design is not only a further exploration for plant pattern manifestation and its symbolic implication, but also the continuity and extension of its beauty. This kind of continuity pays attention both on the shapes, forms, languages and on the aesthetic meanings.This paper puts the historical development as the starting point, comprehensively analyzing the evolutionary of plant patterns and the different features of them in different historical period. After analyzing on the law of shapes as well as decorative thoughts, and researching on the application and development of plant patterns in visual communication design, this paper concludes the artistic techniques and applied enquiries of that. Through the study of some cases, it shows that plant patterns make some values in visual communication design, including aesthetic values, humanistic values and commercial values. Finally, the author try to further exploration that how applying plant pattern in visual communication design with simulation design of logo for The8th China Flower Expo and the means and necessity of applying plant pattern in visual communication design.Making some researches on its shapes, aesthetic values, cultural connotation and application values, not only helps for continuing traditional visual manifestation and strengthening its visual enthusiasm and visual expression, but also favors the applied research on plant pattern in visual communication design, which makes great sense in continuing traditional decorative art.
