With the development of global economy, the competition and cooperation between different countries and regions are becoming more and more frequent. It is quite common for the participants of international trades to communicate with each other in terms of written English. As a result, the quality of Business English writing closely relates to the success of cooperation of international trade.In the study of lexical phrases, the overseas study on lexical phrases has been more than30years since1970s-1980s. These researches focus on the process of L2lexical phrases acquisition, the difference of L2acquisition from different L2learners and lexical phrases in L2teaching. In China, after the First Session of Academic Symposium on Linguistic Lexical Phrases Teaching was held in China in May2009, it becomes popular to study lexical phrases. Under the circumstance, many researchers take part in the study of lexica phrases and publish their own findings and arguments. Basing on previous theories and practical study of lexical phrases, such as the functions and advantages of lexical phrases in L2acquisition, the author tries to input lexical phrases in teaching of BEC writing with the guidance of Lexical Approach and "Input Hypothesis", adopting the methods of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, to carry out an empirical study. The author aims at finding out the correlation between lexical phrases and BEC writing and discussing how to take the advantages of Lexical Approach to improve BEC writing proficiency by inputting proper amount of comprehensive lexical phrases of business English to the students in English majors.In this thesis, the study is carried out by using questionnaires and classroom experiment. The author begins with a questionnaire to identify what main difficulties the students have in BEC writing in the major of Applied English. And then the author chooses84students to divide into them into an experimental group and a control group. There are three main research questions to be answered in this study:(1) What are the main difficulties for the students in BEC writing concerning lexical phrases?(2) Basing on the first question, how is students’BEC writing proficiency affected by the input lexical phrases?(3) To what extent is students’BEC writing proficiency affected by lexical phrases? It is found in the end of the research that students have made great progress in BEC writing in a whole level. In this case, the correlation between lexical phrases input and BEC writing proficiency is positive in this experiment. Besides these, it is also found that the usage of lexical phrases in BEC writing is not as flexible as what the native speakers do.This research is only a trial to find out the lexical phrases used in BEC writing and the students’writing proficiency which also exists inadequate proof in analysis and certification that are needed to be improved in the future studies.
