This thesis aims to research the turn-taking phenomenon and the controlling techniquesbetween the hosts and the guests in Jiangsu TV,“You Are the One†dating program. Thestudy combines the theoretical analysis and case analysis methods based on the turn-taking toSacks, Schegloff and Jefferson. Each turn of the corpus is analyzed to identify the turn-takingstrategy of the present TV dating program. It also reveals the turn-taking features in “You Arethe One†program. In the thesis, the author focuses on analyzing the turn-taking strategy foreach turn based on20videos of the corpus in the program in order to help the directors andpresenters of TV program master more language skills.The whole thesis consists of four parts altogether. Firstly, The introduction part presentsthe main methods, the content, the data source and research significance of this paperrespectively; Secondly, the author introduces the program overview and the research status ofthe program named "You Are the One". It also claimed the structure of the turn-taking basedon the theory of several aspects, such as the adjacent right, insert series, lateral series, overlapand duplication of programs. Thirdly, the study analyses the different roles of the turn-takingtheory in this program and also focuses on comparing the strategies in holding, giving up andstriving for turn between the TV hosts and the guests. Finally, the restricting factors ofPragmatic turn-taking in "You Are the One" program are summarized. It Includes sixprinciples of cooperation, politeness principle, face theory, relevance theory, adaptation theoryand the discourse of power humor. |
