Based on Chen and Starosta’s Intercultural Sensitivity scale, this thesisformulated a questionnaire to investigate50international students from Kazakhstan inXinjiang university of Finance and Economics in five aspects: InteractionEngagement, Respect for Cultural Differences, Interaction Confidence, InteractionEnjoyment, and Interaction Attentiveness, to measure the respondents’ interculturalsensitivity level, and to analyze the factors affecting their sensitivity. Based on theresults of the investigation, in-depth interviews were carried out with3students fromKazakhstan.The results showed that their intercultural sensitivity is at medium level.Individual factors affected their intercultural sensitivity. Of the five measurements,Respect for Cultural Differences is the least sensitive. Factors such as loneliness,homesickness, cultural differences and life inadaptability influenced their sensitivity.In line with the analysis, this thesis made suggestions for teaching, studentmanagement, students themselves, and off-campus institutions. |
