A Study On The Protection And Development Of The Pre-Qin City Sites In Zhengzhou Area

Zhengzhou area is distributed with many pre-Qin city sites. The study on theprotection and utilization has great significance for the protection of ancient relics,the exploration of pre-Qin history, and the urbanization of modern cities. For years,the researches concerning ancient city sites have been focused on the distribution,categorization and evaluation of the ancient city sites, rather than the protection andutilization. Especially the studies on individual cases and their issues are deficient.With the acceleration of industrial and urban development in recent years, theconstruction and economic activities have increased in a great way, accentuatingdifficulties in protecting the ancient city sites especially in those developed region.This paper studies the pre-Qin city sites in Zhengzhou area, considers thesurrounding environment and city development process, and explores the scientificand rational measures to protect and utilize the ancient city sites. Aspects in terms ofthe type, status quo, protection and utilization of the sites are analyzed, and theperformance concerning the protection of pre-Qin city site is evaluated. Besides, thecurrent problems are listed out and the suggestion on improvement will also begiven in the paper. The present paper is divided into five chapters.Chapter one reviews the previous researches pertaining to the protection anddevelopment of the ancient city sites, interprets the relevant concepts, and presentsthe research purpose, significance and methods of this study.Chapter two goes through the excavated city sites located in Zhengzhou areaand figures out34pre-Qin city,16of which will be elaborated in terms of theirhistoric and cultural values.Chapter three gives an analysis on the status quo, protection measures andutilization of the pre-Qin city sites. Aspects such as the classification of the sites,implementation practice of protection and utilization are elaborated. The maincurrent issues are also brought about, and a comparative study is given withreference to the practice of protection and utilization in other places. It is found outin this section that Zhengzhou has achieved well in the protection and utilization of pre-Qin city sites, yet still has deficiency in research studies, systematicimplementation, site utilization and community involvement. The main explanationis lack of knowledge concerning the protection and utilization of the sites, and lackof attention paid to areas such as legislation, land, and fund.Chapter four provides a summary on the status quo, protection and utilizationof the pre-Qin city sites while proposes probable suggestions. This paper suggeststhat the utilization approaches and modes should be varied according to the type andstatus quo of the city sites, and the utilization of the sites should take protection intofull consideration.Chapter five concludes this paper by summarizing the key ideasaforementioned in each chapter and proposing overall and comprehensivesuggestions on the protection and development of the ancient city sites including thepre-Qin ones in Zhengzhou area.
