This thesis focuses on how to use the foreground-based theory to better translate theforegrounding phenomenon appearing in The Seventh Day and likewise introduce thismethod to other novels.Yu Hua, who takes the lead a representative of the Chinese mainland avant-garde fictionwriter, is popular both at home and abroad. And his works have been translated into English,German, French and many other languages. His recent works The Seventh Day was ordered700,000volumes on the first day of its publication, from which we dare say as a writer ofliterature Yu Hua’s appeal is evident.This thesis centers around the foregrounding phenomenon appearing in The Seventh Dayto explore how to translate the text under the guidance of foreground-based theory. In order totest the feasibility of bringing the foregrounding concept into the translation practice andtranslation criticism, the author will set Yu hua’s novel The Seventh Day as a case study. Thistranslation report is divided into five parts. The first part involves an introduction of thetranslation task, the novelist Yu hua, the type of the novel and characteristics of the translationtask; the second part describes the process of the utility of resources to complete thetranslation project; the third part centers on the difficulties and problems came across in thetranslation process; the fourth part describes the methods and theory adopted in the translationprocess through concrete cases to study on the methods and strategies used in the translation;part five discusses the translator’s qualification and translation purposes to illustrate thefeelings and experiences gained in the practice of translation activity.This practice of translation is an essential part in the process of acquiring the author’sMaster Degree, through which the author’s ability to translate has improved in all aspects. This practice is a valuable opportunity for the author’s future translation, from which theauthor really benefits a lot.
