This thesis is written to arrive at the interpretation from the perspective ofcriticism on Anthropocentrism in Yann Martel’s novel-Life of Pi, so as to reveal theevil of Anthropocentrism and the damaged images of the “Others”; in the meanwhileit is written to explain the causes of the damaged “Others”, to figure out the way-outfor human beings and to emphasize the importance of protecting ecology and creatingharmonious society.This thesis consists of three parts: introduction, main contents and conclusion.In chapter one-introduction part, the author briefly introduces Yann Martel’s academiccareer and his works such as Life of Pi, and based on which the author has doneillustration on research status of Life of Pi home and abroad, which reaches ecologicalsense of criticism on Anthropocentrism. In chapter two, the author continues a briefsurvey of criticism on Anthropocentrism, among which theoretical points of criticismon Anthropocentrism become more clarified and preliminarily reflect in Life of Pi.This chapter has provided the requisite basic theory and premise and has furthermoredeepened the inter-relationship between criticism on Anthropocentrism and thecontext. In chapter three, the author then explains Anthropocentrism and thederivative Dualism thoughts, and conversely reveal the penalties of domineeringhuman beings. And upon the analysis of positive-negative sides the author seeks forcausation of the damaged “Others”-animals from injustice and disharmony, whichcould be useful to seek the way-out for humans. In chapter four, the author seemed toindicate the way-out for human beings. By the means of breaking the dualism, takingecological responsibilities, regarding the world with holism and advocating returningback to nature, the author attempts to find series of problems resulted from centeredhumans and tries to seek for the corresponding solutions to ecological problems. Inchapter five, the author reaffirms the purport of the thesis and points out thesignificance in thesis study. This thesis has been written to give the interpretation of the “Others” in Life ofPi from the perspective of criticism on anthropocentrism, to explain the ideas ofecological criticism in the work, therefore we could altogether pay attention to theecological environment and social environment in our neighborhood which promotesharmony between human and human, human and nature, and reaches liberation forboth materialness and humanity.
