The present thesis for MTI degree is composed of two parts. Part One is a translation of the excerpt from Professor Lu Ming’s works Chinese Economy at the Crossroads, and Part Two is a critical review and comment on the translation. The impact of the global financial crisis of2007-2008is profound. Being in Shanghai, the national financial center, we were directly affected by the crisis and at the same time raised a lot of questions towards China’s economic development—Is decline in China’s economic growth rate only a short-term economic cycle? Where does the drive for next round of economic growth come from? Chinese economists have also conducted analysis. It is significant to translate their works from Chinese into English. Articles about economy are professional and normalized with some unique features. The contents and expressions are professional with many economic terms. How to translate this kind of article? The thesis discusses the Chinese-English translation strategy of the excerpt of Chinese Economy at the Crossroads under the guidance of the theory of functional equivalence.
