The Absence And Construction Of Commercial Bank Ethics In The Perspective Of Modern Technology

Nowadays, the philosophy of business operation has a new development. Therole of enterprise changed from the traditional "economic man" to the "social man”.In addition to considering the economic functions of the enterprises, they also shouldtake more responsibilities for stakeholders and pay more attentions on ethics duringbusiness activities. With the special monopoly power which is authorized by Chinesegovernment, Chinese commercial banks play an important role in national life ineither economy or the whole society. As a result, not only those enterprises, butespecially commercial banks should take more social responsibility as a leader amongChinese enterprises. Moreover, in the face of the increasing fierce competitions andthe international requirements since China has joined the WTO, commercial bankshave to change their philosophy, and implement their management under the businessethics. However, China’s commercial banks ethical situation is far from optimism.According to records, the number of cases of the unethical actions is increasing, suchas bank arbitrary charges, off-balance sheet operations and so on. Such eventstremendously cause huge economic losses, which go against the benefits ofconsumers and increase risks of the financial system to the country and the people.Therefore, Chinese commercial banks have to build their ethical structureimmediately.This paper mainly analyzed ethical status of Chinese commercial banks with thestudy of foreign cases, and listed the main ethics problems of modern commercialbanks. After that, it analyzed the reasons of the phenomenon of commercial banksunethical behaviors. These reasons include macro-political and economicenvironment, commercial banks’ internal management issues, professional ethics andprofessional skills of bank managers and their employees. Finally, based on theanalysis, this paper offered a number of targeted implements, in order to build China’scommercial banks ethical structure successfully.
