The Zhenrong Jun is a municipality located in Shaanxi Road border zone. At the outset, the establishment of this administrative region is in consideration of military purposes. In order to transport rations and coordinate Lingzhou, Emperor Taizong took Li Jilong’s suggestion to set up this military city in Zhidao Period, so as to counteract the intrusion from Western Xia. Since its inception, Zhenrong Jun provided with superior transport and strategic geographical position, acting as a strategic pass for the northwest border line. And along with operating frontier affairs, this military city gradually generated some more functions like garrison reclamation, commercial trade, suppression and appeasement. In this regard, the military city plays a truly important role in Song Xia relationship and neighboring ethnic relations. Therefore, this paper selects Zhenrong Jun of Northern Song Dynasty as the research subject, inspects from the microscopic point of view and places extra emphasis on literature research, including geography, site, political, military and other aspects. The first chapter researches on the natural geographical environment and traffic advantages, investigates administrative region history, and defines the administrative region level and affiliation. The second chapter focuses on the organizational structure, writing around its background, process and administered fortresses. The third chapter works around the govener issues, whereby deepen the understanding about gains and losses of northwestern frontier policy and Song Xia relationship’s stage changes. |
