With the development of China’s overall national strength, the demands for talents especially innovative talents have increased gradually in every field. Undergraduates especially those are educated in comprehensive universities are the major resources of innovative talents. Their education, therefore, have attracted much attention.Recently, the learning motivation is becoming a more and more popular topic for scholars and they have made lots of related empirical studies and results. But these results are confined in subjects like language, PE and more concrete ones. The sample of the studies is undergraduates from a certain district or university. Studies about the learning motivation of undergraduates from comprehensive university are rare. Nowadays, these groups of undergraduates are pleased to learn but still have many problems, such as lacking innovation spirits. As we all know, it is a right learning motivation that makes undergraduates learn effectively and achieve their dreams. So it is crucial for us to take valid measures to stimulate undergraduates to learn based on scientific survey results.After stating the theory about the learning motivation of undergraduates in comprehensive universities, this paper applies the ’questionnaire for the motivation to learn for students’ compiled by Huang Xiting. Firstly, a survey for 3870 postgraduates from nine comprehensive universities is conducted and some statistical results are made by STSTA10.0. Then comparative analysis is made to find out differentiation caused by gender, grade, area, university, district, major and education background. Next, some related problems are analyzed, combining the results of the questionnaire and interviews. Finally, this paper discusses how to cultivate and stimulate the learning motivation of undergraduates from both internal and external factors and put forward effective methods. The emphasis of this paper is to analyze the differentiation of the learning motivation of undergraduates and present corresponding methods.The research of useful approaches for undergraduates in comprehensive universities to establish the learning motivation in this paper is based on the more accurate research results of general condition and diversity of learning motivation, and focuses on the internal and external causes to accelerate the establishment of good learning motivation. The basic idea is to find the approach for undergraduates in comprehensive universities to establish rational learning requirement, to satisfy basic requirements and to stimulate high-level requirement, thus generating powerful internal energy to establish learning motivation. On the other hand, this paper tries to find the approach to make undergraduates set rational learning goal, and to generate powerful external energy to stimulate learning motivation by reinforcement methods such as Rewards and Punishments Rules. The final goal is to improve learning interests of undergraduates in comprehensive universities and improve their innovative spirits, which is also significant for comprehensive universities to improve ideological and political education and professional skills to educate innovative talents.
