Over the past few decades, investigations of genre analysis have attracted much attention from more and more linguists and a large number of studies have focused on the research of genre analysis. However, few studies explored the genre of business finance papers and compared abstracts written by Chinese and international scholars from the perspective of genre analysis. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the similarities and differences on organizational structure and linguistic features by means of genre analysis between the abstracts of business finance papers written by Chinese and international scholars. The establishment of corpora was based on 300 abstracts in Chinese and international corpus respectively. The data sources were based on Chinese and international leading scholarly academic journals in the discipline of business finance. The quantitative method and qualitative method were employed to analyze the features of business finance papers. The analysis of features of each move and step was based on the framework IMRC (Introduction-Method-Results-Conclusion) pattern for abstracts. Based on the international standards for grammatical patterns and use of lexis of abstract writing and the previous studies on genre analysis in business finance field, the study explored certain linguistic features such as tense choice, voice choice, personal pronouns and citations. Results showed that the four moves were selected as obligatory moves in Chinese and international corpora, namely Introduction section, Method section, Results section, and Conclusion section. The findings of the study indicated that differences were found between Chinese and international corpora on Move 1 "Introduction section" and Move 4 "Conclusion section", while no significant difference was found on Move 2 "Methods section" and Move 3 "Results section".In addition, as for linguistic features, the occurrence of simple present tense was the highest and active voice was used most frequently in the two corpora. The study also found that international scholars prefer to use first-person plural pronouns in four moves, and that Chinese scholars prefer third-person pronouns in certain moves. The study also found that international scholars use citations more often than Chinese scholars. The study concludes that the abstracts of business finance papers conform to the theoretical framework. By each move and step, both Chinese and international scholars focus their attention on Move 2 and Move 3. But international scholars attach more importance than Chinese scholars to Move 1 and Move 4. As for linguistic features of the abstracts, both similarities and differences exist. Genre analysis is highly recommended for ESP learning. First, as an effective analytical method, it helps ESP students to further understand different genres of texts and should be applied in teaching practice. For instructors, it is important to explore various teaching methods by integrating with rich sources of teaching materials to improve students’ writing abilities. For educators, it is necessary to encourage the application of genre analysis into the practice of research journal papers in order to improve the academic level of Chinese research journals and research papers.
