An Investigation Study Of Dans’ Social Custom Changes In Qishui Town In Leizhou City

Dans are collectively called people who live on the coastal areas of South China, they live on the water as land and take the boat as their home.They are homeless,but they created an unique water culture. Since 1950 s,Dans have the same law and system with people that live on land in qishui town Leizhou city. But their unique social customs are gradually assimilated by landing. This paper selects Dans as the main object of study, by the combination of field work and literature research, it studies the changes of Dans’ social customs after the foundation of new China and discusses on promoting the external force and enlightenment of changes of Dans’ social customs.The thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter one introduces the origin and significance of the research, the literature review and methodology.The second chapter introduces the overview of history,nature and geography situation,also Dans conditions in qishui town in Leizhou city. Leizhou peninsula was a wasteland of South of the Five Ridges since ancient times, but it were areas where people of minority nationalities live in compact communities. They created a long historical cultural on the peninsula,and its unique geographical environment was pregnant with numerous good harbors, which has provided a guarantee to Dans’ survival, and it also became an important place of fisheries development in our country.The third chapter probes Dans’ changes of social customs in qishui town, focus on economic development, changes of living mode from the ship to land, changes of raiment and also diet structure. Special living environment determines Dans’ special economic pattern,they are always good at fishing and swimming.The special living environment also decides Dans’ single diet structure.With the help of our party and government since the 1950 s, Dans gradually lived landing, changing their living mode from ship,shack,bungalow to storied building. Their social lifestyle on the water have to be weakened during the trend of landing,it would be dissolved into land culture gradually.The fourth chapter is rising from the changes of lifestyle to social customs,include changes of traditional festival and folkways, diversification of worship and belief, perfect education system. Although Dans’ traditional festival and folkways are assimilated with land culture in the course of historical changes,they are effectual changes of social customs.Because they can be preserved in the changes. Diversification of worship and belief are process of absorption and application of local gods and foreign religions. Dans began to receive uniform education after landing, so they can achieve self-worth during the course of historical changes. Combined Dans’ interview materials with oral history and real scenes efficaciously to investigate the suitability and expansibility process of Dans’ social customs’ changes.The fifth chapter is to summarize the characteristics and revelations of Dans’ social custom changes. Analyze on the suitability and entity of Dans’ social customs’ changes of external causes, and the shortcomings and suggestions of this thesis.
