In today’s world with increasing science and technology, art and science has entered into the public horizon in the form of agglutination. The integration of video and dance has not only created a brand new platform for dance creation, but changed the nature of video technology and endowed it with new meaning.By managing the early stage of experimental video, middle stage of media communication and historical stage of influence of video technology, this article draws a conclusion to the artistic characteristics of video dance:1. trans-boundary cooperation model,2. diversified communication platform,3. the form that will not easily reappear on the stage. Further, when organizing the domestic and foreign scholar’s definition on video dance, the author summarizes it as generalized and narrow sense, and takes the narrow sense of video dance as the study scope of this article. Within such scope, the author combines the classical cases of foreign video dance and analyzes their creation element (temporal and spatial characteristics as well as ideas of body). In addition, based on the practical experience, the author makes a detailed analysis on the creation process of video dance at the early stage and latter stage in terms of technical level. As a result, the creation characteristics, such as experiment-based, non-profit and body-benefit are obtained. This article analyzes the unique characteristic of video dance from storyboard, scene, depth of field, angle, light and shadow, choreography, mise-en-scene of early creation, as well as the film editing and sound of latter stage. Besides, it further explores the cultural connotation behind the work, laying a foundation to the theoretical study of domestic video dance industry.
