Gu zheng is a kind of Chinese traditional folk art and one of the most representative traditional instruments among the national art treasure. The beauty and majestic elegance of Gu zheng endowed this kind of art with very high reputation in the ancient areas. Under the influence of different regional cultural environment and through absorbing the feature of local music and folk culture in different regions,’Qin Zheng’ inherited and developed to a variety of Gu zheng genre with unique local style.This paper discusses the origin of Gu zheng and the formation of Gu zheng genre, describes the naming, source legend, form improvement and development process of Chinese zither on the basis of the formation of the different regional Gu zheng genre. The paper takes the six main Gu zheng genre as examples, presenting the close relationship between the formation of Zheng genre and the cultural environment、 local music、folk customs and so on, through interview and consulting literature.The author gathered this research materials based on the autoptical result, which mainly focus on songs in Shandong and Zhejiang provinces. The paper regards Zheng song as research object, mainly focuses on the style differences of Gu zheng in Shandong and Zhejiang, which can be reflected from the study of left-and-right-hand playing skills、various melody plate、the comparison of the music style、playing techniques and different performance style of representatives based on a famous Zheng song "High Mountain and Flowing Water". Through organizing the universality and individuality of north-south Zheng genre, conclusion can be stated that the formation of north-south differences comes to the influence of north-south cultural environment、local music、folk customs、Aesthetic habit; Gu zheng could not develop without the older generation of Gu zheng artist’s efforts. Finally, the opinion of the author on the development of Gu zheng in the long time that emerges from the research on comparing the style of Shandong and Zhejiang will be shown.
