For most African Americans, it is an important way to achieve American dream through suburbanization. However, African Americans are confronted with substantial racial discrimination while moving to the suburbs and the suburbanization of African Americans lags far behind that of other racial and ethnic minorities from 1970s-2000. Therefore in this thesis, the author will prove how racial discrimination has restrained African Americans’ suburbanization.In chapter one, the author will make a brief introduction to African Americans’ suburbanization lag. In chapter two, the author will illustrate how the racial discrimination of both federal government and local governments has restricted African Americans’ suburbanization. In chapter three, the author will demonstrate the role of the real estate sectors in causing African Americans’ suburbanization lag.
