Toni Morrison is the first black woman to receive Nobel Prize for literature. She is noted for the depiction of African-American women who are oppressed because of race and gender prejudice. In her novels, she focuses on the African-American experience in the unjust society. Also, she expresses strong feelings of feminist consciousness and nationalism. Morrison shows the domination of colonial system and racial discrimination by integrating the past and present life of African-American. Many fancy and mythic elements are usually used to explore racial, gender and class conflicts. Love published in 2003 is her eighth novel. In this book she focuses on the life of black women who were oppressed both by the whites and men. Though the title of this book is “love”, she actually depicted the abnormal relationship between the women who lived in patriarchal society.This thesis uses ecofeminism to analyze Love and points out the depression upon women and nature. It tries to arouse people to reexamine the relationship between human beings and nature, women and men and aware the importance of setting up a harmonious world.This thesis is divided into four parts. The first chapter introduced Toni Morrison, her novel Love, and ecofeminism. It also makes a review on the researches about Morrison at home and abroad. Chapter two analyzes the depression on nature in this book and the abnormal relationship among Cosey’s women living in patriarchal society. Chapter three analyzes the ideal relationship between women and men, human beings and nature and women’s effort of setting up a harmonious world. Chapter four makes a conclusion about the whole paper.
