"Names" will be the breakthrough point of this article so that we can transform the perspective to draw another outline of Wilde’s comedies. Instead of retelling the marginal identity as an England-Irish as Wilde, elaborating the special effect of his identity consciousness in his experience and thought by analyzing the names in his four famous comedies is the meaning of this article. We are going to reveal Wilde’s important concepts of "Mask", "Language" and-"Style" when he invented, or reset, or changed names. First of all, names can be regarded as main characters in his comedies unprecedentedly. With the deepening of author’s understanding of theatre, the effect and meaning of names come into being and growing gradually. From such aspect, those four comedies are not isolated. On the contrary, there is a developing relationship among them. Characters lost their autonomy and existence while names assumed role function and value idea of plays. The language scene in 1900 was filled with skepticism and uncertainty. Wilde believed that art transcended life, and should not be bound by material society. He evacuated subjectivity so as to force audience to rebuild the order of mind. So we can say that Wilde had his own foresee ability of literature development. He realized that language was the essential element of alienation in the world, also the key point of correcting the social structure, because each single object of consciousness cannot escape from language. Language is thinking. Whether silence or subversion, the target is always to rectify the world of alienation.
